Whiting the name derived from word “Gaolin” is one of the most common clay mineral with the chemical composition Al2Si2O5(OH)4. Rocks that are rich in whiting are known as china clay or kaolin.
It is a soft earthy white mineral with low shrink swell capacity and is produced by chemical weathering of aluminum silicate minerals like feldspar. It is colored pink, orange or red with iron oxide giving it a distinct rust tint.
